The Holden Racing Team Reveals Car of the Future
Holden unveils the first of its Cars Of The Future Commodore V8 Supercars.
Australia’s most successful V8 Supercar team, the factory Holden Racing Team has revealed the first of its next-generation Holden Commodore race cars built to V8 Supercar’s new Car Of The Future regulations.
The stunning new Commodore, the result of almost 1,500man-hours by the Walkinshaw Racing organisation from design through to construction, underwent its initial shakedown at Calder Park Raceway today.
Reigning Bathurst Champion, Nick Percat awarded the honour of driving the car for the first time, doing so under the watchful eye of team-mate, V8 Supercar Champion Garth Tander, team owners Martine and Ryan Walkinshaw, and Holden Motorsport Manager Simon McNamara.
The HRT Commodore COTF carries a special, one-off matt black technical carbon-fibre livery providing a sophisticated yet intimidating look.
The gold theme introduced for the 2012 race season carries over and now incorporates the logos of long-time HRT major partners, Toll, Mobil 1 and HSV.
HRT Managing Director, Steve Hallam said today was a proud moment.
“It’s quite a day. This is the first time in seven years that we have designed and built an entirely new car and you can feel the emotion of the occasion throughout the organisation,” Hallam said.
“The Car Of The Future project has taken a lot of blood, sweat, toil and tears. There has been a lot of effort and contributions from everyone within Walkinshaw Racing.
“I would like to pay special thanks to Doug Skinner, our Chief Designer, who has been instrumental in the Car Of The Future project, and to Operations Manager Adam Laws and his team, who have provided the wherewithal to put this car together.
“We have a massive learning curve ahead of us with this new car and we will immerse ourselves in it.
“The preparation for 2013 starts today. Now that we have the car, we have our test program to run through and we can get after it on the race tracks.”
With a record 200 all-time race wins, six Australian Touring Car/V8 Supercars Championships and seven Bathurst 1000 wins since its inception in 1990, HRT is the most successful Australian motor racing team.
