Geneva: New Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabriolet
One week after Volkswagen released details, their brand new Golf GTI Cabriolet variant made its top down debut at the Geneva Motor Show at the start of March.
It is the first time we have seen the open-top variant of the Golf GTI since the first generation and is likely to be the final variant of the current model series before it is replaced next year. With that in mind, the Golf GTI Cabriolet is the most powerful production Golf Cabriolet in the universe.
Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbo engine that develops 210 PS (155 kW / 208 hp) and 206 lbs ft (280 Nm) of torque via a six-speed manual or optional six-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox. The Golf GTI Cabriolet runs from 0-100kph (0-62mph) in 7.3 seconds which is 0.4 seconds slower than the hard shell GTI hatch. Top speed for the cabrio is 147 mph (236kph).
The Golf GTI Cabriolet's electrically powered fabric roof takes 9.5 seconds to fully retract at speeds of up to 18mph (30kph).
