R-RATED BARINA TO SIZZLE IN HOT HATCH SEGMENT

Details of an exciting new limited edition hot hatch have been released by Holden New Zealand, but with only 100 units of the Barina R available nationwide enthusiasts will need to be quick if they want to get behind the wheel of the specification enhanced new model.

“Holden is enjoying particular success with our small car range and the arrival of the Barina R will help reinforce our appeal in this segment,” said the Managing Director of Holden New Zealand, Kristian Aquilina.

“This limited edition model delivers an enhanced value proposition, thanks to the inclusion of a variety of new features over and above the Barina CD variant on which it is based.”

The sporty credentials of the Barina R are emphasised by large 17-inch RS alloy wheels, a bigger RS rear roof spoiler as well as front fog lamps.  The overall look is completed with the inclusion of Barina R side decals in matte black.

Safety, already impressive with a five-star ANCAP rating and six airbags as standard, is boosted with the inclusion of a rear-view camera, while MyLink infotainment projected on the seven-inch colour touch-screen ensures enhanced connectivity with the ability for hands-free calling and smartphone app integration.

The Barina R is equipped with a 1.6 litre DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder petrol engine, which offers outstanding refinement, power and torque that ensures energetic driving characteristics.  The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with Active Select.

“Holden New Zealand is excited to be able to offer a model such as this, as it demonstrates we’re serious when it comes to delivering value enhanced motoring across our entire new model portfolio,” said Mr Aquilina.

The new Barina R is available at Holden dealerships from late August and comes standard with a three-year warranty as well as Holden Roadside Assistance. 

The recommended selling price is $21,990 plus on-road costs.
