Better for Less: Golf 7 Arrives in New Zealand

‘Longer, wider, lower, safer, greener, more progressive and more fuel efficient’.

‘Longer, wider, lower, safer, greener, more progressive and more fuel efficient’ are among the astonishing descriptors which herald the arrival of Volkswagen’s Golf 7. Entirely redeveloped, the latest generation of one of the world’s most successful cars is now available in New Zealand from the equally remarkable price of $32,250.00 (RRP) plus on-road costs.

With over 29 million units sold since the first generation launched in 1974, Golf 7 is the next chapter in the story of Volkswagen’s success. Completely redesigned, the Golf 7 blends uncompromising quality of Golf’s heritage with future-proof technology and functionality. In short, Golf 7 offers Kiwis cars which can do everything better, for less.

“The launch of Golf 7 is being celebrated by our team and customers and will be central to our continued success in 2013,” says Tom Ruddenklau, General Manager of Volkswagen New Zealand. “Volkswagen has worked hard to deliver a new Golf that is more advanced and even more affordable. This is all part of our mission to offer a car for every Kiwi.”

Golf’s exterior form is one of the most familiar product designs in the world and this has been further refined in Golf 7. The new proportions, including shorter front overhang and shifted passenger cab, give a distinctively more independent, sophisticated and durable shape, typically found in premium-class vehicles.

These sportier proportions have optimised the interior space of the vehicle offering passengers in the back more leg, shoulder and elbow room.

Cargo capacity has also grown by 30 litres to 380 litres. This extra space means it’s the ideal choice both for Kiwi families and corporate use: from bach to business, school trips to road trips.

For Golf 7 ‘better’ really means better. The engines were entirely redeveloped and are now all fitted with Volkswagen’s BlueMotion Technologies including a Stop/Start system and battery regeneration mode . With all measures combined it was possible to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 18 percent and improve fuel economy by up to 19 percent.

Other features include the new multicollision brake system, which reduces the severity of secondary collisions and is standard to all new Golfs, and the optional proactive occupant protection system which helps detect a potential accident situation and react accordingly. Inside Volkswagen has equipped the Golf with a new generation of radio and radio/navigation systems with Bluetooth connectivity which has the ability to handle media streaming and phone calls on two devices at the same time.

Being able to offer customers this remarkable vehicle for less is testament to Volkswagen’s pioneering production approach. The Modular Transverse Matrix platform (MQB) has revolutionised the company’s ability to produce quality vehicles for less, standardising many vehicle components across vehicle classes and allowing new technology in the areas of safety and infotainment to be available to all vehicle segments.
