SPORTING ICON CASEY STONER SIGNS ON AS HOLDEN AMBASSADOR
After representing Australia on two wheels for over a decade, two-time MotoGP World Champion, Casey Stoner has become an ambassador for Holden.
The announcement was made in Adelaide this morning when Stoner unveiled the Red Bull Racing Holden VE Commodore that he will drive in this year’s Dunlop V8 Supercars Development Series as he makes the transition from two wheels to four.
“It’s great to be representing Holden. Holden is a part of our culture, so to be able to race one with Triple Eight is a fantastic opportunity,” Stoner said.
“I’m really looking forward to getting behind the wheel, enjoying the car and the racing – it’s going to be an exciting year.”
Stoner already has a Holden in his driveway, the 27-year-old is the proud driver of a Sportwagon SS-V.
“I spend a lot of time commuting to and from the factory and it’s really comfortable to drive. It’s a great family car.”
Holden Motorsport and Sponsorship Manager, Simon McNamara said Stoner was a Holden man through-and-through.
“Case Stoner is a sporting icon and we are extremely proud to have him representing the Holden brand,” McNamara said.
“Before he rode to his sixth successive Australian MotoGP victory, it was Casey’s choice to drive to Phillip Island in a Holden.
“Casey is a Holden fan, he is passionate about our brand and it is only natural for Holden to embrace him as he switches his career from two wheels to four.”
Sponsorship of motorsport is integral to the Holden DNA and part of Holden’s strategy to significantly enhance its marketing by partnering with some of Australia’s biggest brands, including the National Rugby League and the Collingwood Football Club.
These new sponsorships are a strong indication that Holden is back and bigger than ever.
The year Holden has increased marketing by 40 per cent as it gets set to introduce six new cars into the market, including the all-new VF Commodore.
Stoner will make his V8 Supercars debut at this week’s opening event of the season, Adelaide’s award-winning Clipsal 500.
The second-tier Dunlop V8 series will be contested over seven rounds, supporting the V8 Supercars Championship Series in Adelaide, Perth, Townsville, Ipswich, Winton, Bathurst and Sydney.
