Bentley Flying Spur Roadshow Launch 2013

To launch the new Bentley Flying Spur in New Zealand, Bentley Auckland embarked on a Roadshow from Queenstown to Auckland to preview the new Spur alongside a series of Bentley Fleet vehicles.

Queenstown:

Marking the start of the Roadshow, a select number of Bentley customers were invited to attend a two-day Golf & Drive event in Queenstown.  Guests stayed at The Rees Hotel from Monday night, and with Paul Trenberth 10 golfers enjoyed a very cold round on The Hills Course, Tuesday.  Despite the chill and the poor scores, everyone had a great time.

Luckily the weather was beautiful for Wednesday’s drive event at the new Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell.  Following the unveiling of the Flying Spur in the museum by Lee Small & Robin Peel (Bentley UK), drivers were split into three rotating groups to cover each activity across the day:  one went to drive two new Spurs on the picturesque roads between Cromwell, Clyde Dam, Old Clyde, & Alexandra; another tested the GTV8’s on a series of slalom & ABS braking manoeuvres on a section of the track; and the last experienced the GTCV8, the GT Speed for laps, whilst also taking a ride in a 1926 Bentley on track (worth far more than the other cars combined).  Surprisingly the 1926 Bentley was a perfect ride, and although not nearly as dynamic to experience, it certainly gave an extra touch to the day.

To finish a perfect day of Bentley driving, a Guest dinner was held at True South Restaurant, with views over Lake Wakatipu.  The Fleet plus two Flying Spurs were then transported up to Christchurch for stage II of the roadshow.

Christchurch:

On Friday 11th October, Bentley owners from Christchurch were invited to see an unveiling of the new Flying Spur at the George Hotel.  Guests were hosted by Paul Trenberth & Tony Morgan for a light evening with champagne and canapés.

The following day guests were invited to take the new Spurs or other fleet models out for test-drives, before the fleet moved up to the capital city.

Wellington:

Wellington’s turn came on Tuesday 15th October, when local Bentley owners and enthusiasts were invited to a similar launch and unveil evening.  Guests were hosted by General Manager Lee Small & Sales specialist Paul Shorter at the Asteron Building, corner of Featherstone & Bunny St.

Also in attendance were brand partners Naim Audio with a selection from their home-audio system, Moet with their bubbles, and Breitling with their fantastic selection of watches.

Auckland:

To mark the end of the Roadshow, a final launch was held in the Bentley Auckland showroom, Friday 18th October.  Local owners & their partners were invited to a themed “luxury & performance” evening, which was designed to show the diversity of the new Flying Spur.  A string quartet opened the launch, accompanied by classic canapés and champagne.  Lee Small introduced the Flying Spur before its unveiling, followed by a theme switch where a DJ took over.  Waitstaff, canapés and cocktails shifted to a more contemporary & racy note.  Again brand partners Moet & Breitling were present, and added an extra touch of class to the night.

In conclusion

We hope to continue with strong sales of the new Flying Spur in NZ. Having already pre-sold 7 Flying Spur, it promises to be a heavy contender in the Bentley range, and from its performance throughout the Roadshow we look forward to seeing more with this car soon.
