April Motorsport Wrap-Up

Mitch Evans - Mitch has been back at GP2 testing for his new team Jagonya Ayam Campos Racing ahead of his season starter in Barcelona on the 13 - 15th of May. Preseason tests at Jerez de la Frontera back in March provided the teams with a feel for their new drivers and the handing of the cars with the various set-ups. We are wishing Mitch all the best with his 2016 endeavours both GP2 and LMP2 for the World Endurance Championship.

Simon Evans - Having just wrapped up the New Zealand Touring Cars season with a dominant season, Simon took home the championship after a rained out final race. The SMEG holden will be back again next season ready to make another run at the title, but until then you may find Simon behind the wheel of an Audi.

Brendon Hartley - It was an action packed season opener for the World Endurance Championship at Silverstone this month, and unfortunately Brendon was caught up in part of the collateral. Colliding with one of the Porsche GT cars, almost flipping the prototype LMP2 racer. Brendon has come out unscathed and has accepted responsibility for the incident, but team moral couldn't be higher as they head to SPA.

Earl Bamber - With a flurry of results around the world with the Porsche 912 RSR, Earl, as you may remember, came in P2 in the GTLM class, with Scott Dixon not far behind in P5. Earl took part in our Porsche Festival at Hampton Downs taking the famous 1998 LM24 winning Porsche GT1. The infamous Nordschleife took him for a ride as well as he drove the 911 GT3 R (The race car, not the road car) but had tyre failure sending him back to P10, but says he's now confident on how to go about jumping the Porsches.

Richie Stanaway - With last years season being a testament to durability, the Aston Martin Team suffered a retirement of the #97 car which was unfortunately Richie's. With a mechanical issue causing the retirement, the team must strip the car to quickly determine the fault. With Silverstone being a day to forget for the drivers, they look ahead to the next race.

Scott Dixon - Being one of New Zealand's best, but one of the world's most underrated drivers, Scott has proved his worth behin the wheel. With four races of his fourteen race season completed, scott has had a varied placing in the standings. A P7 at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida, a P1 victory at the Phoenix Grand Prix in Arizona, a P2 podium at the Grand Prix of Long Beach in California, and a P10 in the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Indianapolis in Alabama. The three time Indycar Campion's next race is at Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis in Indiana.

Shane van Gisbergen - With another brilliant result for the Mclaren garage59 and their 650S GT3, Shane and the team too a victory at Monza with an entertaining 30 minute battle with the close behind AMG. His next V8 Supercars race will be in the Perth 400 at Barbagallo Raceway on the 6 - 8th of May.

Hayden Paddon - Haydon has most recently stunned the world with his brilliant performance to win the WRC in Argentina. Hayden started the final stage with a 2 second lead ahead of the 'World's Best Rally Driver' Sebastien Ogier who had won the stage more times in the past than he hasn't. Last year on the same stage, Ogier took 20 seconds out of hayden's time, but this year Hayden fought him off becoming the first Kiwi to ever win a WRC, and by 11.7 seconds. What an outstanding achievement!
