Porsche 918 Spyder heats up Nevada
Porsche engineers continue to test the 918 Spyder around the world.
Porsche has released a new promotional video that shows the 918 Spyderundergoing hot weather testing in Nevada.
The clip eschews the usual high-speed antics to focus on the car's lengthy development process which has resulted in the company racking up nearly one million miles in prototypes. As we have previously reported, the 918 Spyder features a 4.6-liter V8 engine that produces 608 HP (447 kW) and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft) of torque. It is backed up by two electric motors - producing 156 HP (115 kW) and approximately 129 HP (95 kW) - which power each axle.
This enables the car to have a combined maximum output of 887 HP (661 kW) and more than 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to the complex powertrain the 918 Spyder can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, hit a top speed in excess of 340 km/h (211 mph) and travel approximately 30 km (18.6 miles) on electricity alone.
